UMCU and Quarterback Bryce Underwood Bring Superhero Joy to Mott Children’s Hospital

Batman Arrives: UMCU Sponsors The One Nine Superhero Ball

We were so honored to sponsor The One Nine Superhero Ball at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital last week! It was an amazing event that brought excitement, inspiration, and superhero-themed fun straight to young patients and their families.

Leading the charge was Michigan Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood, who completely embraced his nickname and channeled his inner Batman! Bryce, who was first dubbed the "Dark Knight" by interim head coach Biff Poggi, spent the evening hanging out with dozens of young patients. Wearing a black cape marked with his number, 19, he snapped photos and signed autographs, creating unforgettable memories for everyone.

Bryce shared his heartfelt perspective on the experience: "Just having these kids — their day made by me running into the building is a blessing," he said. "It’s surreal. It’s a surreal feeling... any opportunity I have to give back, that’s what I want to do."

A True Team Effort

The Superhero Ball was definitely a team effort! The event also featured appearances by classic heroes like Spiderman and Captain America. Plus, there was fun superhero-themed face painting and an interactive green-screen video that magically turned patients into flying heroes!

We would like to extend a special shoutout to our dedicated UMCU team: ten volunteers were on hand to assist with the activities and make sure every patient had a memorable night alongside Bryce and the other heroes. To ensure every child received something special to take home, UMCU also provided giveaway bags to all patients. Each bag was filled with fun and useful items like a water bottle, notebook, crayons, and a pop-it bracelet.

UMCU was thrilled to be a key partner in making this inspiring night happen. Bryce Underwood even recognized our role, endearingly stating that he considered UMCU the "Robin" to his Batman!
