Independent Edge™

U of M Credit Union's Independent Edge™ program is a series of no-cost, in-depth financial education presentations for teen members 16, 17, and 18 years old. These classes focus on managing a checking account, budgeting, using credit wisely, and electronic account access.

Upon successful completion of the course, your teen may be given the option to:

  • Remove the parent from his/her account
  • Open a checking account with a debit card (certain restrictions may apply)
  • Register for MemberNet Online Banking and TellerPhone

The next class will be held during the first week of January 2009.

Students must attend both days of a two-day class to receive the benefits of the Independent Edge™ program. The two-day class is will be held at our new Jackson Road branch. All materials and snacks will be provided.  Instructors for the classes are Amy Berg, UMCU Director of Training, and Christy Robinson, UMCU Training Specialist.

Class size is very limited, so please register your son or daughter quickly by calling 734-662-8200, ext. 2556 or 2557. We will then send you a confirmation notice along with a parent consent form and participant agreement which must be completed and brought to the first class. Due to the popularity of the Independent Edge™ program, only teens who have accounts with us will be added to the registration list.

Independent Edge™ is a fun and very beneficial program, and we look forward to meeting your teen.
