Membership - Who Can Join

In addition to the identification listed below for each membership group, a prospective member needs to present a valid driver's license, a valid state identification card, or a valid passport.

Note: Once you join the credit union, you may retain your UMCU membership for life even if your student or employment status changes.

Membership Group
Identification required
Employees, retirees and students of the University of Michigan. A current paycheck stub, a valid staff ID card, a letter from the supervisor, preferably on University letterhead, or a valid student ID.
Employees, retirees and students of Washtenaw Community College or Cleary University. A current paycheck stub, a valid staff ID card, a letter from the supervisor, preferably on College letterhead, or a valid student ID.
Employees and retirees of Concordia University. A current paycheck stub, a valid staff ID card, or a letter from the supervisor, preferably on College letterhead.
Employees, retirees and students of licensed trade schools located in Washtenaw, Wayne and Livingston Counties. A current paycheck stub, a valid staff ID card, a letter from the supervisor, preferably on company letterhead, or a valid student ID.
Employees and retirees of associations or unions that are composed primarily of employees of the above groups. A current paycheck stub, an employee, association, or union ID card, or a letter from the association or union group, preferably on association or union letterhead.
Alumni of the University of Michigan. A valid UM Alumni ID card or verification with a call to the UM Alumni Records office.
Employees or members of employer groups or other organized groups which are located within Washtenaw, Wayne or Livingston counties or within 25 miles of the credit union's main office or a branch location. A current paycheck stub, a company ID card, and verification to the list of select employee groups.

New groups requesting service must provide an authorized written request on company letterhead.

Any person over the age of 55 who receives a retirement annuity, pension, social security, or similar retirement payment from private or government sources, and lives in, or belongs to a retirement organization located in the county, or in a county contiguous to the county where the credit unions' main office is located. Proof of retirement payment or a membership card for a retirement organization, and home address.
Employees and retirees of U of M Credit Union. Verification with the Accounting Department.
Members of the immediate family of an existing member. Immediate family: relatives of the member, by blood or marriage; or any individual living under the same roof and in the same household as the member. Name and address of the family member.
