University of Michigan Credit Union knows the importance of good savings habits at any age. That’s why we offer several programs to help develop these valuable skills. Discover how your son or daughter can enroll in one of our many programs that show youth extra ways to save and shop. Check out our Penny Pioneer, Financial Fitness, and Independent Edge accounts. Youth and their parents may explore our online magazines below to learn about fun ways to earn and save money.

Financial Fitness

This program offers special account benefits for our members age 11-15 who attend one free Financial Fitness educational event. The Financial Fitness event is offered semi-annually at our Jackson Road branch. The specific date will be determined approximately 2 months prior to each event. The Financial Fitness event combines fun and education by featuring a pizza dinner, ice-breaker games, prize drawings, and several short educational sessions on saving money, earning money, and spending it wisely. Benefits for those who attend include:

  • A Financial Fitness share account designation on your child's current account. Current rate.
  • A quarterly savings bonus - $1 for every $100 on deposit at the end of each quarter (March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31). There is a maximum $10 bonus per quarter.
  • A quarterly letter that describes opportunities to earn cash by completing specific projects.
  • Financial Fitness members will retain their Financial Fitness status until their 16th birthday.

*A penalty will be charged for early withdrawal.
